Israel Olatunji Tijani is a data scientist and ICT4D expert whose work bridges technical rigor with digital rights. A Pan-Atlantic University alumnus and WASIG fellow, he champions cultural parallelism, the development of decentralized, culturally-specific AI models that reflect local languages, values, and worldviews. This approach directly counters the hegemony of monolithic AI systems that flatten linguistic nuance and erase diverse social practices.
Tijani’s contributions to UN Women and the SVRI focus on the behavioral consequences of AI for female gender. He demonstrates how algorithmic models often replicate real-world patriarchal structures, producing automated harms that mirror offline discrimination. By exposing how bias is encoded into platform logic, he advances data-driven policy analysis and intersectional DEI governance frameworks. His work redesigns platform guardrails to mitigate technology-facilitated gender-based violence, engineering equitable, gender-safe digital spaces. Ultimately, Tijani ensures that AI governance is not only transparent but also culturally responsive and behaviorally accountable to vulnerable populations globally.
