Dr Phathiswa Magopeni is a seasoned media leader with over 20 years’ experience across strategic, operational and editorial roles. Her work focuses on media ethics, accountability, editorial governance, inclusion, media pluralism and the influence of emerging technologies, all grounded in journalism that serves the public interest. She is Executive Director of the Press Council of South Africa, advancing ethical journalism, media freedom and the public’s right to credible information. She also serves on several boards, including the South African Broadcasting Corporation, African Women in Media and the Network of Independent Media Councils in Africa, and holds leadership roles in regional and global media bodies. She is a member of the World Editors Forum and holds an MPhil, an MBA, and a Doctor of Business Administration. Her experience spans international media governance initiatives.
